I was also a substitute teacher for elementary schools in Taiwan. And yes, all my experience were in Taiwan, but my current student (my daughter) ~ is fluent in English and Mandarin speaking and listening and I have been teaching her read and write since she was 3 years old. She is able to recognize and write all zhùyīn and spell the vocabulary by herself in 9 months. Recently, she started to learn words. I used a lot of educational fun tools , songs and stories to help her learn . I believe in encouragement and discipline both. I also believe in building self confidence and studying skill is important. I’m able to teach simple character and pīnyīn as well. Additionally, students will gain correct pronunciation methodology. 【Mandarin Beginner level 】 Age: 6 and up Learn to Read & Write Mandarin Zhùyīn or Pīnyīn: 8 weeks. This course will teach the all zhùyīn and pīnyīn characters. Zhùyīn and pīnyīn enables students to effectively read Chinese. Additionally, students will gain correct pronunciation methodology. 【Mandarin practical conversation 】 This class is designed for beginning level students . Designed to teach practical language skills for everyday use, this course will teach the student how to introduce themselves in a variety of settings, talk about their likes & dislikes, their family dynamics, money, food, and shopping. The topics will be facilitated via reading, listening, and speaking using coursework, visuals, audio, and light homework assignments to help them internalize the material. The student will have undivided attention and ample time to interact with a native speaker, ask questions, share ideas, etc. As someone who has learned 2 foreign languages, I understand the challenges and the concerns that a learner experiences.
